Tasting Notes
Vinous 92
The 1959 Figeac was the first great vintage after the 1956 frosts, so half the fruit came from infant vines. Though I would not place it in the top echelon with the 1947 or 1949, this is a really lovely Saint-Emilion. There is something almost exotic on the nose, imparted by those precocious young vines: heady scents of blood orange, star anise, peppermint and honey infuse the lush red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity and is plenty of truffle-tinged red fruit. Very harmonious in style, if missing a little depth and grip toward the finish. Sublime, but I would drink bottles soon. Tasted at the chateau.
