(Krotenpfuhl Riesling Grosses Gewachs AP #23- Weingut Hermann Donnhoff) The Donnhoff family s 2021 Krotenpfuhl Grosses Gewachs is truly stunning. It is pretty rare that they make a GG from this vineyard, rich in quartzite and one of the warmest sites in Bad Kreuznach. The wine comes in at an elegant 12.5 percent alcohol in 2021 and delivers a gorgeous bouquet of tart orange, apple, citrus zest, complex minerality, a touch of saltiness, lemongrass and wild yeasts. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with ripe, snappy acids, laser-like focus, impeccable balance and a long, complex and still quite youthful finish that will demand plenty of cellaring before it starts to blossom. In comparison to the very good dry Rieslings from younger vines in the top sites, the Krotenpfuhl GG firmly shows how much more mid-palate depth one finds once the level of Grosses Gewachs bottlings is reach here this year! (Drink between 2031-2085)

Refined fruit trending citrus. Herbaceous, apple blossom and kumquat. Youthful energy and swaying rhythm swirls the wine of its own accord. Poise and precision with a stony, drying grip. Listen closely to hear the lilting solo. The Lorelei has a new home, and it s called Krotenpfuhl.
