Tasting Notes
Vinous 90
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru lacks cohesion and vivacity on the nose. The fruit is a little desiccated and overripe, hints of prune coming through with time. There is some Brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with thick, slightly chewy tannins, quite burly in style with a rather heavy, imposing finish. It lacks subtlety, though at least it’s clean and without volatility. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

This too flirts with volatile acidity on the cooler though still liqueur-like aromas both red and dark pinot fruit that is laced with hints of violet, anise and earth. The velvety, round and overtly powerful medium weight plus flavors also possess good power and punch on the lightly stony and slightly warm finale. This is not quite so over-the-top like the Vaucrains though it is still impressively robust.

Cask sample. Pretty heady nose. Is this a sample or a picking-date thing? Big and round and super-intensely ripe and fruity with, just, a sufficient corset for long life. Quite exciting wine with some nerviness. But overall pretty rich.
Anticipated maturity: 2028-2045
