Tasting Notes
Vinous 92
The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques bursts from the glass with dark red fruit in an exciting, viscerally thrilling style that captures the personality of the vintage. The wine is beginning to shut down and will require patience, but it should be pretty spectacular when it emerges from its slumber. Layers of fruit build to the sensual, totally inviting finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029
Wine Advocate 90-92
The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques is a silky, elegant wine. Crushed flowers, berries and sweet spices are woven together in a fabric of inimitable class. This is an understated, slightly ethereal Burgundy that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. The finish is round and harmonious. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.

Burghound 93
Moderate reduction is enough to push the underlying fruit to the background so I would suggest decanting this for 15 minutes or so if you’re tempted to crack a bottle before its full maturity. Otherwise the delicious and mineral-inflected medium weight flavors display ample verve and good mid-palate density that mostly buffers the firm but well-integrated tannic spine, all wrapped in a gorgeously persistent and ever-so-mildly austere finish. This robust and powerful effort isn’t particularly refined but it’s clearly built-to-age and even with 10 years of development, it’s going to require at least twice that to arrive at its peak.
