Tasting Notes
Richard Juhlin 98
They only produced 2,000 of these much-lauded and frightfully expensive Methuselahs for the millennium. I am very grateful that an anonymous friend of mine thought that I should taste this treasure together with him and a few close friends. There is no doubt about it: this wine rises above the usual Cristal from 1990. The wine, strangely enough, is more developed and accessible, despite the size of the bottle. I believe this is because the grapes used for these giant bottles were even sweeter and more mature, from old vines. The bouquet is very smoky with a for the time being marked dominance of Ay. The palate resembles the smoothest essence of Chardonnay that it is possible to create. A world-class wine that few have the privilege of tasting, and even fewer will have the privilege of drinking completely evolved in ten to twenty years.
