Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 93
Tasted from a magnum. A similar colour to the 1970 tasted a couple of weeks previously. The nose is still evolving: oyster shells, lemon zest. Still quite backward in my opinion. The palate has superb definition, vibrant and quite yeasty and minerally. This needs another 5 years to develop more complex aromas and flavours like the 1969 and 1970. Broody, cerebral. Tasted July 2004.

When newly released this wine had typical Dom Perignon style! The wine has a style similar to many others, but once you have it in your glass there is no doubt as to the origin. The ’83 has more orchid, mushroom cream, and diesel fumes than the ’85, but fewer toasty tones. The Champagne is easy to drink and juicy, rather like chewing a sweet peach. The aroma has become problematic over the years, with tones like plastic and petroleum. The flavour is creamier and more florally refined nowadays, in a similar way to the 85.
