Although this wine will probably live long, it will never be better than it was in 1990. Then there was a life and a glass development that was an unmatchable pleasure. First a closed but top-class nose, which opened up after ten minutes into a Montrachet-like depth of the loveliest of wine aromas. It has a classically well-balanced structure, with a long, nutty aftertaste that is close to perfection. Later bottles have shown an even greater richness of taste, but some of the elegance has been lost. The most recent magnum in Vilnius had a bouquet of Clos du Mesnil (98 points). Vinous 98

Nineteen seventy-nine is one of the all-time great vintages for Krug. Among other things, it marks the first release of Krug s Clos du Mesnil. The 1979 Vintage, tasted from magnum, is utterly magnificent and nearly as thrilling as the Mesnil. Miraculously fresh for a wine of its age, the 1979 pulses with remarkable energy and tension, with the Chardonnay coming through nicely in the wine s overall brightness. Lemon oil, white flowers, almonds, crushed rocks and dried herbs are some of the signatures. Krug s 1979 is testament to the towering stature of this iconic Champagne vintage. To be sure, the magnum format helps, but I have had bottles of the 1979 that are every bit as moving. [Antonio Galloni, 11/01/2015]

We store in LCB Dinton Woods, giving us full control over our stock and client reserves.

The annual charge is £12.50 per 12x75cl (or £6.25 per 6x75cl). To store your wine collection at our Dinton Woods facility, please contact us for a quote.

Goods will be delivered to the address provided at order placement, provided it is a shippable address. We reserve the right to cancel orders to non-shippable addresses (e.g., USA dry states).
