Grower Champagnes

As appointed distributors, we highly recommend these three outstanding growers from the region. Their productions may be small, but they do make premium styles for the more discerning Champagne lovers.

Champagne PLOYEZ-JACQUEMART is a family business founded in 1930 in Ludes, in the Montagne de Reims, by Marcel Ployez and Yvonne Jacquemart. They vinify the three main grapes of chardonnay, meunier and pinot noir from 2.2 ha of prized crus around Mailly and Ludes. Laurence Ployez is the current Wine Maker at Champagne Ployez-Jacquemart. Trained since 1988 by her father, Gérard Ployez, she rigorously oversees the vinification and commercialisation of champagnes, while bringing her own unique sensibility to the process. The essence and soul of their work lies in the ongoing pursuit of excellence (for which they have received many awards) and in a remarkable ability to craft truly great wines. They have a full range of Champagnes - including six vintages and Prestige Cuvees. However, their annual production if just 100,000 bottles, 90% of which is sold abroad.

Alexandre Filaine label

Champagne ALEXANDRE FILAINE is a relatively new house in the town, formed by Fabrice Gass who was the previous winemaker of Bollinger. There are 1.5 hectares of organically grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines scattered around Damery, in the Montagne de Reims. Here the Filaine family have been growing grapes for over 500 years. Fabrice adopts old traditional methods, such as the use of native yeast fermentation in very old small wooden barrels, hand disgorgement and dosage. His wines are not filtered and there is no malolactic fermentation. His characterful Cuvées tend to have amazing balance, breadth and depth in flavour complexity, in the style of Bollinger.

Champagne PHILIPPE LANCELOT  is a small organic and biodynamic producer based in Cramant who farms 4.28 hectares of mainly Chardonnay vines spread between Cramant, Chouilly, and Epernay. His parents formed the estate in the 1970s. Philippe began organic conversion in 2010, and instituted biodynamic practices in 2012.  The winemaking is as “natural” as possible: the must is not chaptalized, little sulfur is used, and the dosage is Brut Nature or Extra Brut. They make pure and expressive cuvees with increasing popularity, especially in the leading restaurants.
